Developed by Peterson’s for the Frillseeker Bazaar, the “Autumn Frills” combines seasonal (and budget-conscious!) flavors with ease of preparation for a crowd — great for the harried host/hostess who doesn’t want to bother with the cocktail shaker when the turkey needs basting… or she herself needs brining!
Autumn Frills
makes 15 drinks
1/3 cup honey
8 ounces (1 cup) 100% unsweetened cranberry juice
12 ounces (1 1/2 cups) unfiltered apple cider
I teaspoon high-quality orange bitters (ex. Fee’s West Indian Orange Bitters or Regan’s No. 6 Orange Bitters or Angnostura Orange bitters)
3 bottles of prosecco or cava (or other dry sparkling wine), well-chilled
15 long slivers of orange peel, for garnish
15 single, whole cranberries, for garnish
Autumn Frills make-ahead “mix”
In a microwave-safe container, heat honey a few seconds to warm into a very thin liquid (this will help it blend with other ingredients). Add cranberry juice, apple cider and orange bitters and mix all ingredients are well-blended. Refrigerate and chill well (not more than overnight).
To make each drink: To serve, pour 1 1/2 ounces of the well-chilled Autumn Frills mix into each champagne flute. Fill the flutes with prosecco. Garnish with sliver of orange peel and single cranberry.
